What if This Was True?

The scientific community is now very certain that there are multiple universes, not just one and they exist all at the same time. Don’t worry, this article will not be technical, well, it can’t be because I am not. This article is is based on proven science, if you are interested there will be some resources at the end of the article for you to apply to these ideas to your life.

Despite the science fiction name, what is it and why are scientists so curious about this concept? It all comes down to some very strange things involving time travel, changing the past and teleportation. Scientists have been split between the quantum world view and Einsteins’ views, based on two different sets of results from observiing different aspects of how things work. Before Einstein’s time, the world was seen as Newton first described it when he discovered the principles of gravity, as a clockwork, predictable and unchanging Universe. The conventional wisdom of the late 19th Century is best expressed by Lord Kelvin’s statement that there would be no need for science within a few years because all that could be known was already known and they were just tidying up the last threads of knowledge.

In 1915 in slim little academic paper from an examiner in the Swiss Patent Office called Albert Einstein changed all that. Already the cracks in Newton’s model of the universe were showing cracks as the reality of the expanding universe colided with the idea of a fixed universe. According to the Newtonian rules, the universe was static, but as observations of distant stars became more accurate, the reality of the expanding universe shook the foundations of conventional wisdom. Einstein’s theory states that time and space are linked, so much so, he referred to the fabric of the universe as space-time. Previously, time and space were seen as separate and largely unconnected parts of the universe. Einstein said that time and gravity were intimately related. Another famous physicist, John Wheeler, put it like this: “Time is what prevents everything from happening at once”. Einstein observed “Time is not at all what it seems. It does not flow in only one direction, and the future exists simultaneously”.

Since then two types of views have emerged in the world of physics: the quantum view and the Einsteinian view. The search to find a Unified Theory is intense, and the multiverse figures very prominently in this search.  This is the Big Goal of physics today. But at the quantum level (very, very small scale where bits of atoms are studied) really weird things happen and no one can account for gravity. In the non-quantum world, Einstein’s theories fit the universe very well indeed. It is only from Einstein onwards that time and space are linked in Western physics,in the East this was another matter. Recently, two new theories have moved closer to the goal of a Unified Theory and they are the idea of multiverses and string theory.

Well, this is all fine and dandy, but what does it mean for you and me? After all, physicists, theologians and philosophers have debated loads of things over the years and not much came out of it, right? Our past experiences and our emotional reaction to them, our ideas and opinions are what determine what we will allow ourselves to see.

Could be, couldn’t it? How about an example, studies have shown that when Columbus’s three ships first showed up, the natives could not see them. Why? Did they have bats in the belfry? No, they simply had absolutely no frame of reference for something of that kind. The mind loves patterns, and in this case, the natives had absolutely no pattern that came even close to being able to process what they observed, so the sensory signals were ignored. How can this be? We only actually use about 5% (sight, sound, touch, etc.) is what we actually consciously percieve after our subconscious and physiological filters have done their job. What happens to the rest of the information? It gets junked. Why? How? We process all this information through a series of “filters” some of it is physiological, some of it emotional and some mental but it all adds up to seeing what we expect to see. Ever had the experience of suddenly seeing something you previously were “blind” to but was there all the time? This new thing you are aware of, I would suspect it was there all along. Imagine you’ve had a fight with a friend, later you discover something new about the situation that changes your point of view totally. Have you ever had an experience like that?

And this has what, exactly, to do with the multiverse? Science has show repeatedly for the last 100 years of experiments that the observer influences the observed, therefore consciousness is a core aspect of the way the Universe is made up. In a famous experiment that has been repeated identically time and again, particles have been show to “transform” into waves or behave as particles based on the expectations of the experimenter. Photons which are some of the smallest bits of matter have been able to be “transported” into two places at the same time and from then on behave identically, always. This is called quantum entanglement. Iridium is one of the heavier atoms and scientists have now teleported these atoms too. In the past, only tiny chunks like protons have been moved this way. Iridium atoms are pretty dense, they do not rust and can withstand temperatures of over 2,000C. It is a long way from a new form of travel for us. In fact, these experiments were less about some fancy new form of travel but were about the structure of the universe itself. Occam’s Razor is the idea that no matter how strange the simplest answer is, that is the truth. In this case, the simplest answer is that the particles are connected and not travelling at all. They are holographic. Holograms contain “templates” of the whole thing in every portion of the thing. Crazy, huh? Have you ever seen a hologram laser image? No? Seen the first Star Wars when Princess Leia’s 3D image gives a message to Luke Skywalker? That’s a hologram. You know what? You have holograms inside you too. It’s called DNA. DNA is the code of life and it contains all the information about what makes each of us unique. The DNA in your body is the same in all cells. It has been shown that a type of cell called a “stem” cell can turn into any other kind of cell. So there really is only one type of cell, they just become more specialized. Consider this, the stem cells that make up the brain are the same type of stem cell that makes up the skin. Well, the results of that are a whole other set of posts.

So back to the multiverse, with all these atoms and atomic particles behaving strangely. Let’s pretend for the moment that the particles in the sub-atomic world were people. Now, if some of them did really weird things like time travel, be in more than one place at the time, affect the past and more weirdness, you’d be at the very least, interested in how they did that, right? I mean, if they are made up of the same stuff that you are and can do all these things that you can’t, then the only thing left, is that they know something you don’t right? Or maybe they see the universe differently and have different beliefs about it. Remember the native Americans? Do you recall the 5% of things that you do see? If you change you point of view, how much more can you see? What would your new awareness allow you to do?

Well, that was fun, but when are we going to get the multiverse thing out of the way? Well, to account for all the weirdness at the quantum level, scientists believe (interesting word that) there are multiple universes existing all at the same time. Here’s an interesting mind game, imagine that every person who’s life intersects yours is the connection between their universe and yours, strange right? Here’s a challenge, can you prove this statement wrong? After all, the world was once proven to be flat. How many people have come into your life at different times and may have had a big impact on you, but then went out of your life. They have moved out of your life, either because they passed away or simply moved out of your life, but that all occured in this universe. It’s a bit like the movies, where some actors have minor roles and others have lead roles. But in another movie a minor actor has the lead role. Fancy a game? Let’s pretend this is true for a while. How could you life change if you really lived form this point of view? You are already a master of multiple universes, so how can minuscule issues in your life be compared to the power to move universes? We can use these universal principles to change the life we lead for the better. Want to know how to truly harness them easily?
